Introducing LifeEntertainmentNews.com!

I have been writing for major news outlets for years– enjoying the perks of exclusive event coverage, celebrity interviews, and connections made across industries. However, I’m at a point where I need the freedom to cover topics of my choice, edit as needed, self-publish, write on my own schedule, etc. Additionally, news outlets having been shuttering on the regular for years now, leaving their staff high and dry. Tired of the constraints and tired of being laid off, I recently made the decision to launch my own entertainment and lifestyle site: LifeEntertainmentNews.com!

Born out of necessity, I was able to get the site up just as my previous outlet stopped publishing user-generated content and deleted many of my articles. I won’t have to worry about that again. I also no longer worry about when posts will go up, edits not being published, or any of the other headaches that come with being a freelancer. However, I also don’t have the large platform, following, and exposure that comes with working for one of the larger publications. Hopefully, that will come with time. In the meantime, I’m blessed to still have a network of publicists and brands that I’ve worked with for years. The relationships that I’ve cultivated during my career have already provided an early stream of content and support for my burgeoning site. In addition, I’ve always embraced indie artists and small businesses, and there will never be a shortage of rising brands looking for coverage.

I’m proud of the work that I’ve accomplished thus far, but the journey has just begun. If you feel so inclined, please check out the new site and let me know what you think! There are options to leave comments on articles, contact me directly, or subscribe to the weekly newsletter. It’s also @lifeentnews across social media platforms if you would like to follow the brand online.

I plan to keep this blog site as well, as Life Entertainment will not be a space for my rants or inner thoughts! Also, if there are product reviews or content in categories that I’m not covering on Life Entertainment, then I will publish them here. Admittedly, I have not been publishing consistently, but I still want to maintain and use this domain. In addition, there are a couple other projects that I have lined up, and this site will definitely come in handy as an assist 😉

All that being said, if you or someone you know is a high-quality, entertainment and/or lifestyle writer looking for an outlet, please consider LifeEntertainmentNews.com! You can reach me by completing this contact form.

Free babysitter available

Periodically, I get offers from brands, publicists, or influencer sites to review and/or promote products. Sometimes the product is relevant to my interest and audience, and other times it’s way off. With the rise of mommy bloggers, I’ve seen an increase in outreach efforts from toy and game companies targeting toddlers in particular. There are also a lot of offers for baby products: Diaper bags, pacifier clips, teething rings, etc. When they are paid promotions, I definitely regret having to turn them down. But, I don’t have easy access to children! I obv don’t have children, I don’t have family nearby, and my friends either don’t have kids or don’t have little ones. What to do?

One of my friends is a godfather to a toddler, so I thought that was a potential opportunity. Free toys sounded like a good idea to the parents, but they weren’t too keen on the idea of the child being posted on social media. For these promotions, I would likely post a photo or video of the child with the product or interacting with it.

Then, I thought about volunteer work. I could bring the toy to a child in need, and spend time with them. But photographing them would be exploitative (and probably not permitted). If I could just babysit a kid for a couple of hours, give the caregiver a break, and take some snaps, I would be golden. But would strangers let me watch their kids? What if I watched them for free?

I have some qualifications under my belt, and kids love me 🙂 I was a teaching assistant in a preschool for children with special needs, and I also taught wellness topics to students in K-12 as a paraprofessional. Both of these positions were with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. My CPR and First Aid certifications have expired, but I could easily get them renewed.

So, the caregiver gets free childcare for a couple of hours, and I get a snap or video of the little one having a great time. Sounds like a win-win to me! What are your thoughts?

Blogging again

Welcome!

I co-founded a blog years ago that posted celebrity news and gossip, interviews with local hip-hop artists, and info on hot mainstream music. Then when I started DoloHustle.com, I focused solely on artist interviews and promo for my company and I.  Now DoloHustle.com serves strictly as a means of promoting myself, producer G Dolo, and selling his beats online.

Since 2012 I have had a weekly radio show called “Party Time With Brownie” on MOCRadio.com.  I sometimes refer to it as my ‘weekly rant.’  Often there are topics I want to discuss that would better be served with some sort of visual… a slideshow, video, etc., or some topics that I want to go in more detail about, or simply some topics that I want to bring up but don’t want to do an hour-long show around.

So… here’s my new blog of rants and raves, sharing my thoughts and occupying myself during many nights of insomnia.  Enjoy, let me know what you think, and try to follow my train of thought.  Good luck.
